Marquis Los Cabos

Hotel Information: The Marquis seems much larger than it is, with a multitude of sitting and sunning areas to explore. Families enjoy the shallow pools and poolside dining. Couples enjoy the more private areas and mostly subdued atmosphere. The pristine beach is fine for walking and hunting for shells, but swimming is not recommended due to strong undercurrents. However, guests can walk 10 minutes south to Playa La Concha, where an outcropping of rocks protects swimmers from the waves, making it a perfect place to take a dip. Golfers can play a different nearby course each day.

Amenity highlights: Bathed in a warm yellow borrowed from the Baja sunset, the Marquis makes good use of its ample grounds. Lounge chairs are spaced far apart, the serpentine pools meander aimlessly and everyone has a front-row view of the crashing waves. Indigenous plants and cacti decorate the grounds and giant iron sculptures greet guests at the entrance and on the terrace level. The spa features a climbing wall and a variety of treatments, including massages and body wraps that utilize sea salt and seaweed from the adjacent Sea of Cortez.

Insider tip: Bronze statues of winged angels decorate the hotel lobby. By the pool, though, these same angels can be seen frolicking about, sans wings. The story, according to the owner, is that the angels found their paradise, and shed their wings so they could stay. Sure enough, at the hotel entryway, guests see another sculpture, featuring just the wings, floating freely in the mist of a fountain.

This San José Del Cabo hotel offers 237 ocean-view suites and casitas. Suites are located in a five-story main building to the rear of the property while the casitas are next to the pool and along the beachfront. Marquis Los Cabos rooms feature specially commissioned oil paintings, table candles, wicker ceiling fans, and large balconies. Bathrooms with marble floors, provide hydro-massage tubs and Bulgari toiletries. Beds are dressed in Frette Italian linens and down comforters. A small cabinet alcove allows access to complimentary room-service breakfast of freshly brewed coffee, sweet rolls, and fruit delivered each morning.

Also provided are direct-dial phones with voice mail and data ports, in-room safes, and minibars. Casitas also feature private pools and separate living areas.
